The Competition is restricted to a maximum of 32 teams due to the format of the competition and the availability of playing time. We play our competition in August and September each year when we hold the initial rounds, usually two or three depending on the number of entries.
We recently have been experimenting with a ‘mini league’ format whereby we break the number of entries into up to 8 leagues of 4 teams. The winners of each mini league then go into the draw for the quarter finals with 8 teams progressing.
During April each year the quarter finals and semi finals are played and the final itself being help, usually, between the 7th and 14th May each year.
Entry into the competition is by invitation only but teams can apply for entry and their application will be considered by the competition committee. Ground and team facilities are important and a minimum standard, complying with The F.A, and Lancashire F.A., charter standards is required. It is important that such applicants understand that our games are played in the evening and therefore, kick off, unless you have floodlights, are usually 6-15pm. If you have floodlights we try and arrange kick off times that are satisfactory to both teams. Games are played, usually on a Monday or a Thursday night, but this can be changed so that teams can, wherever possible, reach a convenient time and day/date to play their games. Both teams however, much agree and the home team wishes are paramount. Generally teams are flexible and usually there are no problems if sufficient time is allowed. For any changes to the stated fixtures teams must make application to the secretary for a change and this will ONLY be granted where BOTH teams agree.
Because of the kick off times, and the distances teams may have to travel, entry into the competition is also governed by a teams location. We have in the past had teams from the Wigan, Leigh, Chorley, St Helens and Warrington areas but teams must give an assurance that they can travel in time for the agreed kick off times.
